Job Description

Job Summary:

 

The Lead Estimator is responsible for developing and leading the capital department estimating competency. Responsible for ensuring project estimates are developed with accurate current cost data to ensure appropriate budgeting is captured for portfolio management.

 

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Focus will be on Capital Projects:

  • Prepares estimates with the proper level of detail for all project stages:
    • Conceptual, Design Development and Construction Documents.
  • Subject Matter Expert in estimate class definition and AACE practices
  • Functional lead for estimate validation in all phases
  • Ability to use company benchmarks and factors for management reporting and project development
  • Build on existing estimate templates and WBS structure
  • Provide appropriate estimate development training to Project Managers as needed to ensure estimate accuracy
  • Develops, organizes, and manages a centralized cost estimating database and a formal process to support cost benchmarking
  • Analyzes historical data to define cost variance trends (Estimate compared to final costs)
  • Provides improvement recommendations to cost estimating procedures to reduce future discrepancies between estimated and actual costs

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or a related field
  • Minimum ten (10) years of experience in estimating supporting Engineering, Procurement and Construction estimates for Petrochemical, refineries and/or manufacturing plants

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Estimating skills must include knowledge of factored estimating techniques and experience preparing detailed estimates
  • Field experience preferred
  • Experience in being a team lead and presenting to Senior Management
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite with advanced skills in Excel required
  • Understanding of contractual language, ability and knowledge to review completed bids for accuracy in pricing, resources, equipment, subcontractors, safety considerations, schedule, and quality as it effects pricing (for estimates)
  • Ability to work in a team environment and willingness to share knowledge and learn from others
  • Can manage multiple projects and priorities in a logical, methodical manner
  • The ability and willingness to work under tight time restraints
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies
  • Strong work ethic - Willing to do what it takes to get the job done
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Ability to interact with personnel on a professional level
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
