Position Description:

The Traffic Coordinator is directly responsible for all rail and vessel movement in and out of the terminal and managing inventories, with an emphasis on dry bulk products. This includes coordinating all inbound and outbound rail traffic with the rail carriers and coordinating all vessel traffic with the customers and vessel agents for multiple Kinder Morgan terminals. The Traffic Coordinator is directly responsible for maintaining inventories and will be a key part of the terminal team by providing logistical, operational and administrative support for operations. Key tasks will included but are not limited to; liaison with customers during all phases of the operation, to include scheduling, providing daily status updates, creating essential paperwork and forms for the product transfer process, tracking and managing customer inventories, and supporting billing functions, which include dispatch demurrage calculations. The Traffic Coordinator will work closely with customers’ and agents to provide and receive status updates, generate forms and reports, and place information into the system so unit trains and vessels may be loaded or offloaded.

Position Responsibilities

Manage and oversee coal train traffic

Track coal inventories
Develop and maintain relationship with customers via daily contacts as needed
Vet all vessels for assigned terminals
Maintain Daily vessel schedule for assigned terminals
Work with vessel agents to insure all vessel preload documentation is in place
Work with Customers to insure all vessel preload documentation is in place
Develop and maintain relationship with customers via daily contacts as needed
DV vessel folders prior to vessel loadings
Manage and oversee despatch demurrage calculations on all vessels for assigned terminals
DV despatch demurrage calculations
Work with customers to mediate any dispatch demurrage disagreements
Assist AP group in assuring proper invoicing of vessels
Coordinate vessel schedules with Operations and Maintenance to set up outages as needed
Coordinate shipping schedules with customer inventories as needed
Monitor, track and facilitate agreements for monthly, quarterly and yearly dispatch demurrage
Maintain working knowledge of all shipping contracts
Assist in inventory tracking and management of products handled
Assist the terminal management team as needed
Maintain KPI Charts at assigned terminals and assist as needed for other locations
Participate in quarterly SQE Committee meetings and perform MBWA’s (manage by walking around)
Support and play an active role in the terminal’s Safety, Quality and Environmental Compliance (SQE) process and culture.
Develop and maintain fluency with the inventory management program (Galahad)
Manage customer inventory levels and inventory reconciliation after each move and product transfer.
Special projects as needed
Traffic coordinator position is on-call 24/7 and routinely takes calls afterhours and weekends
Duties will include weekend responsibilities for preparation on Monday mornings
Other Duties as assigned

Position Requirements

Education:

High school diploma or GED equivalent

Four year college degree is preferred, or a minimum of four years military service, or equivalent experience in a Traffic Coordinator/Manager role with majority responsibility in rail and vessel at bulk and/or liquids facilities.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers.

Must pass and complete Safety training/certification as required by customers to work in their facilities and as required by Kinder Morgan at all locations.
Must obtain and/or meet all requirements to enter foreign trade zones; such as background checks by both the U.S. Coast Guard and the Department of Homeland Security, i.e. obtain and maintain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC).

Experience / Specific Knowledge:

Three to Five years of traffic/transportation logistical experience in a terminal setting.

Familiarity with liquid and bulk marine industry practices.

Competencies, skills and abilities:

Intermediate to advanced proficiency level in Microsoft Office applications; including but not limited to Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Strong analytical skills and logical thought processes.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize daily responsibilities.
Must be able to successfully and simultaneously manage multiple tasks, and work with minimal direct supervision.
Must possess general understanding of how corporate policies, procedures, practices and processes relate to the business segment, associated business units.
Must demonstrate a thorough knowledge/understanding of rail and vessel logistics.
Must be able to pass a company background check, drug screen, and other tests as required.

Physical Demands:

Must be capable of sitting/standing for long periods of time.

Must have manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard.
Must be capable of lifting up to 50lbs if required.
Must be able to pass a physical examination if required.
Must be capable of boarding vessels as needed.
