Position Description

Provide project engineering support for liquid bulk terminals operated by Kinder Morgan Liquids Terminals. This support will include engineering and design of projects associated with the transportation of bulk liquids via pipeline, rail, truck, and marine vessels. Engineering review and enhancement of terminal operations and maintenance are also included in this position. The successful candidate will report to the Engineering Manager.

Position Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Engineer and design piping systems for expansion and system upgrade projects including piping, pumps, valves, controls, vessels, and associated equipment.

Develop system models and perform hydraulic/surge evaluation of existing and proposed piping systems.
Provide engineering support to product blending and mixing design and operations.
Review and assess existing operating and maintenance issues and provide recommendations for mitigation of the issues.
Assist in the developing and generating project scope documents, schedules, cost estimates, and budget forecasts as required with minimal direction from supervisor.
Develop material and equipment bid packages with minimal direction from supervisor.
Concurrently manage multiple tasks with various deadlines and responsibilities.
Contribute to meeting business objectives by generating and implementing project ideas.
Manage outside consulting and engineering firms associated with assigned projects.
Review proposed engineering designs by outside firms for operability, ability to maintain, and insure the design meets industry standards, KM’s Engineering Design and Construction Standards, applicable regulations, and KM’s Operations and Maintenance procedures.
Review and provide feedback for proposed changes to KM’s Engineering Design and Constructions Standards and KM’s Operation and Maintenance Procedures.
Apply KM’s design and operating philosophy to meet corporate goals for safety, regulatory compliance, efficiency and profitability.

Competencies, Skills and Abilities:

Analytical problems solver and ability to apply engineering principles.

Must be self-motivated, and able to perform the required and expected duties with minimal direct supervision.
Ability to coordinate and/or manage concurrent or simulations project or assignments of various objectives, of various sizes, in various locations and with various completion dates.
Ability to read and effectively communicate orally and in writing in English with coworkers, vendors, customers, contractors and regulatory officials.
Demonstrated ability to understand and/or develop liquid terminal operating processes and procedures.
Possess basic project management skills used in the development of project documents such as project scope, schedule, budget forecasting, cost analysis, and risk identification/mitigation and be capable of communicating this information using well-developed written and verbal skills.
Proficient in reading and interpreting engineered drawings, such as P&IDs, piping, isometrics, structural, electrical, etc.
Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering design and construction standards and specification and operation and maintenance procedures.
Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Chemical or similar Engineering discipline.

Experience/Specific Knowledge:

5-10 years of experience as an engineer in liquid terminal or plant design, construction, operation, and maintenance.

Working knowledge of industry and regulatory codes and standards, such as 49CFR195, API, ASME, NACE, NFPA.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and driving record acceptable to the Company and its insurers.

Must possess, or be able to obtain, and maintain a valid Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC).
Professional Engineering (P.E.) license a plus, but not required.
Additional Information:

Work environment is office with occasional field visits.

Up to 5% overnight travel.
Drug testing per DOT PHMSA - Pipeline & Hazardous
This is a non-supervisory position.
