Overall Job Objective

Position Description

Under the supervision of the Tuberculosis (TB) Program Manager and with the direction of the Assistant Tuberculosis (TB) Program Manager, the Tuberculosis Case Registry Supervisor is responsible for the daily operations of TB field staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervises outreach worker(s) in providing Contact Investigation (CI) and Direct Observe Therapy (DOT)
  • Supervises outreach staff to prioritize job assignments and coordinates with Nurse Case Managers and Contact Investigator
  • Coordinates to assure the workload of patient care is distributed evenly among outreach staff
  • Supervises assignments for new patient intake, contact investigation, second round testing of contacts, and clinic schedules
  • Monitors and tracks duties related to expanded/mass contact investigation services including field work, data collection, data entry / database maintenance, and contact follow-up
  • Supervises outreach worker(s) in performance of skin testing activities or specimen collection (e.g. sputum collection, phlebotomy)
  • Conducts random TB field audits of entry- and experience-level CIs and DOT field staff to assure compliance with established Quality Assurance Guidelines and Harris County Policies and Procedures
  • Actively participates in staff meetings and case conferences, including providing oral reports on patient care activities
  • Completes performance appraisals of outreach workers in a timely manner
  • Reviews and approves time off for field staff and coordinates schedules with Nurse Case Managers and CI Coordinator
Fleet Car Responsibilities
  • Tracks TB fleet cars on a daily basis from Fleet Complete monitoring system
  • Oversees maintenance of fleet car oil changes and inspection stickers on a monthly basis
  • Reviews DOT/CI routes to assure itinerary is being used effectively
  • Monitors mileage of fleet cars and assess when cars need to be rotated
Data Collection and Reporting
  • Assures the accurate and timely completion and submission of local, state, and/or federal TB Control-related forms as they relate to field staff responsibilities (including TB 340-341 Compliance report and contact investigator worksheet)
  • Works collaboratively with epidemiology and other staff of Harris County Public Health involved in TB surveillance activities
  • Prepares written reports on Field Staff activities on a weekly basis for Nurse Case Manager and Contact Investigator coordinator
Other Duties
  • Collaborates and assists in other disease control and/or nursing activities as needed
  • Assists in providing DOT/DOPT/3HP and CI when needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including special tasks involved in responding to an emergency event (e.g. Public Health Preparedness and/or TB Mass Screening events)


  • High School or GED Diploma; and
  • A minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience in a medical environment such as a clinic, hospital or private practice office
  • Intermediate-level proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office
  • Valid Driver's License (TX upon hire)
