Position Description

What you will do at Precinct One

The selected candidate will read blueprints and building specifications to map layout for pipes, drainage systems, and other plumbing materials. Familiarity with installation, maintenance and repairing of pipes and fixtures associated with heating, cooling, water distribution, and sanitation systems in a commercial environment are critical skills needed for this role.
You will work closely with architects, construction project managers, engineers and technicians in the course of various projects. You will inspect drainage and other plumbing systems for compliance with local and national regulations and, install pipes and fixtures, such as sinks and toilets, for water, gas, steam, air, or other liquids. Supervision over staff to ensure compliance with health, safety standards and building codes is essential.


What you will bring to Precinct One
Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; and
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience repairing plumbing equipment and systems in commercial and industrial facilities.
  • Valid Driver's License (Texas Upon Hire). 

Additional Requirements
  • Texas Commercial Drivers license must be obtained within a given timeframe.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Skilled in the care and use of hand tools and power equipment used in the plumbing trade.
  • Ability to read and follow blueprints.

About the Building Maintenance & Construction Department
The Building Maintenance & Construction Department provides a clean and safe environment for staff, visitors, and constituents, while maintaining repairs, and improvements to Precinct One facilities at the highest standard possible by the most efficient means.
About Precinct One
There are four precincts in Harris County. The four elected commissioners, along with an elected county judge, serve as members of Harris County Commissioners Court, the administrative head of the county's government.
With approximately 1.1 million residents, Harris County Precinct One is a diverse, urban precinct that covers 363 square miles. Precinct One's multi-racial, multi-ethnic population is roughly 39 percent African American, 37 percent Latino, 18 percent Anglo, 5 percent Asian and 1 percent other.
Precinct One, which includes 876 miles of road, stretches south to Brazoria County and reaches into eastern and northern sections of Harris County. The Precinct's territory includes a large section of Downtown Houston, including the Downtown Harris County Courthouse Complex, Toyota Center, Minute Maid Park and the BBVA Compass Stadium. Other notable landmarks include the 263-acre NRG Park Complex and the renowned Texas Medical Center. The Precinct is also the higher educational home to Houston Community College, Rice University, Texas Southern University, the University of Houston and the University of St. Thomas. Precinct One manages more than 20 parks, 11 community centers, numerous hike-and-bike trails, three maintenance service centers and several area offices, all of which provide an array of services to Precinct One residents.
