Job Description

Position Summary
The External Communications Advisor is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive and integrated public relations (editorial/earned) and social media strategies to drive brand awareness, protect the company’s reputation and garner positive engagement with the media, influencers and the public. The position will interact and collaborate with key business leaders, C-Suite executives and agency partners to develop and execute plans.

  • Provide high-value strategic communication support and expertise to executives, key business leaders and special project teams to ensure the right messages are getting to the right audiences through the right channels at the right time.
  • Develop integrated and comprehensive communications plans supporting FedEx Office business objectives.  
  • Anticipate and understand editorial/earned media and social media trends and tools to create effective FXO messaging. 
  • Generate ongoing media coverage through earned media and social media efforts supporting the FedEx Office business strategy.
  • Develop content, such as key messages, and assets, such as press releases, media alerts, infographics, photos, graphics, video, that support the earned and social media strategies. 
  • Ensure all messages clearly communicate and support FedEx Office strategy and business initiatives.
  • Manage day-to-day activities of multiple strategic communications and strategic business projects.
  • Work with agency partners who support communication strategies and tactics.
  • Build relationships and work closely with key business leaders across FedEx Office and FedEx to maximize results. 
  • Support FedEx Office crisis communications process.
  • Provide feedback and counsel other team members on the communications team that improves the quality of their work.
  • Analyze communication campaign results and adjust future plans as needed.
  • Seek learning opportunities to further develop and strengthen professional knowledge
  • All other duties as needed or required

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Public Relations, Journalism, related field or equivalent experience 
  • 7+ years’ experience writing, editing and proofreading skills.
  • 7+ years’ experience in Communications, Corporate and/or Agency setting preferred
  • Proven ability as a strategic thinker with ability to understand and incorporate social, editorial and digital elements into comprehensive communications initiatives.
  • Proven experience in developing a variety of communication assets such as press releases, media alerts, social media content, infographics, etc. 
  • Proven ability to collaborate with agency partners to produce business results.
