This is a seasonal, part-time position.

JOB SUMMARY
:

Under direct supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Coordinator assists in implementation, coordination and supervision of youth day camps, activities, and events.  This is accomplished by assisting in the day to day operations of youth camps, interacting with program participants, developing schedules, submitting orders for supplies and equipment, assisting in promoting events and ensuring the readiness of facilities.  Other duties include administrative support, on-site supervision and instruction of programs and or athletics.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assist in implementation and coordination of youth day camps by scheduling activities and events, submitting orders for supplies and equipment, responding to questions and comments from the public, inspecting facilities prior to programming, assist with training and supervising Recreation Leaders and Recreation Assistants.

  2. Provide administrative and clerical support to staff by assisting in scheduling facilities, taking reservations, collecting fees, and providing receipts.

  3. Lead, supervise and conduct classes, day camps, and activities.

  4. Supervise children properly and respond immediately during emergencies, including administering first aid as necessary.

  5. Assist in control of equipment and supplies.

  6. Maintain attendance, discipline and other records for program/athletic participants.

  7. Effectively communicate with children, parents/guardians, contractors, and the public.

  8. Supervise the daily activities of the Recreation Leaders and Recreation Assistants, including behavior and professionalism of the staff.

  9. Conduct oneself at all times in a manner of professionalism that aligns with the values, philosophies, and standards of the City and facility. This includes wearing appropriate attire and nametag.

  10. Attend all scheduled employee meetings.

  11. Provide positive, enthusiastic customer service to all members and guests. Greet members and guests by name.

  12. Assist in scheduling of Recreation Leaders and Recreation Assistants.

  13. Adhere to all written standards of operation, policies, procedures, manuals, memos, verbal instructions, etc.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Support all youth, volunteer, civic and cultural activities in which the City participates.

  2. Arrive to work on time as scheduled, in the appropriate work attire.

  3. The ability to work various shifts, including days, evenings and weekends.

  4. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. 18 years of age or older.

  2. High School diploma or GED.

  3. Six months full time or 1 year part time experience planning, coordinating and implementing recreation and/or educational programs for children 6 to 12 years old. Previous summer camp experience preferred.

  4. Current Ellis & Assoc. or American Red Cross Adult/Child CPR, First Aid and AED Certifications or the ability to obtain upon employment offer.

  5. Ability to motivate and maintain a positive atmosphere, and if necessary, use positive disciplinary techniques.

  6. Good verbal and written skills.

  7. Valid Texas Driver's License and a safe driving record.

  8. No visible tattoos or unnatural hair color. No piercings to be worn visible during shift.

  9. Non-smoker preferred.

This position will require physical exertion. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to grasp, handle, feel, type, listen, hear, reach, see, speak, walk, sit, and stand for long periods. The employee is frequently required to bend, stoop, crouch, carry, lift up to 75lbs, read documents and a computer screen. Work is generally performed outdoors in extreme heat and indoors in a climate-controlled environment.
