DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Houston Water is seeking an energetic, flexible, self-motivated individual that will function in a trainer role. The ideal candidate is a subject matter expert, possesses a valid A or B TCEQ occupational license in water and/or wastewater, and able to communicate course information in a relevant, informed manner. Prepare and conduct training courses for City employees and other external customers. Conduct general or specialized training sessions as assigned. Develop lesson plans and utilize appropriate instructional material to teach assigned courses. Recommend changes to testing and evaluation procedures, training manuals and other instructional materials. May develop teaching aids such as handbooks, demonstration equipment, multimedia visual aids and reference materials. Stays current on training objectives and materials provided by TCEQ and the City of Houston. Provide technical assistance to staff and trouble shoot operational problems. Teaches principles and procedures by demonstrating equipment and machinery use while applying knowledge of programming, electronics, mechanics, etc.Instructs on computer or software applications for water and/or wastewater systems
The position involves routine walking, periods of sitting, and occasional stooping or bending. Occasional light lifting, such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 40 pounds or equivalent weight) may be required.
This is a Department of Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier _3_ Level.
- MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Education, Personnel Management or a related field.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
One year of professional personnel experience involving training in a formal classroom setting and/or the development of curriculum and lesson plans for adult learners is required.
Pertinent training experience on a professional level may be substituted for the above educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Preference will be given to candidates with at least three years of water and/or wastewater operator experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge in subject matter
- Instructional experience in formal or informal setting
- Classroom management
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
