Permit Technician II

- Job Description
The purpose of this position is to provide administrative and clerical support in the processing and issuance of permits and contractor registrations. This is accomplished by receiving applications, maintaining records, scheduling building inspections, issuing trade permits, and providing assistance to property owners, contractors, architects and the public. Other duties include conducting field inspections, preparing detailed reports, answering phones and copying and faxing documentation.
- Examples of Duties
Accepts and reviews permit applications by responding to inquiries, accepting permit applications for residential and commercial construction, logging plans/applications for tracking; accepting drainage submittals, collecting money, and filing plans.
Issues permits and Certificates of Occupancy by reviewing the scope of work to be performed, verifying the contractor is registered with the City, obtaining information to complete applications, and collecting permit fees.
Provides customer service leadership by providing customer assistance at the front desk, directing customers to appropriate information or staff members, and documenting departments' customer service policy and procedures; creates/updates standard operating procedures for permitting process.
Provides cashier assistance by collecting revenues from permits and registrations, logging money, and sending money to the finance department.
Assists the Development Services Department by providing clerical support, preparing detailed reports on daily, and monthly permit applications, permit reviews, permits issued and other paperwork, and conducting field inspections for tree and construction site regulations, and residential rental Certificate of Occupancy.
Performs other duties as assigned.
- Minimum Qualifications
Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.
Over one year up to and including three years of customer service experience.
Valid Class C Driver's License.
