The City of Baytown is seeking a Plans Examiner to reviews proposed commercial, industrial and complex residential construction plans to ensure compliance with minimum building code and ordinance requirements. This examiner determines whether plans submitted are adequate to transmit full information to field inspectors, are sufficient for a complete code review, and are in conformance with building codes and other standards. Issues permits. This role includes making field inspections throughout the City of Baytown as necessary.
| Minimum Qualifications:|
|Knowledge of the International Code's, National Electrical Code and industry standards in construction practices. Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with other City employees, officials, contractors, and the public. Ability to read plans to make sure that all requirements and regulations are met. Computer proficiency in word processing and record keeping. Thorough knowledge of International Codes, and the National Electrical Code.|
This position is both office and field based. The individual in this position will be exposed to extreme hot and cold weather conditions as well as some caustic substances, noise, and physical and respiratory hazards.
Attendance is an essential function of this position. The City reserves the right to require an employee in this position to work more than 40 hours a week. This position provides services or performs duties for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations. These may include services or duties different from those performed in the usual course and scope of your job. In the event of an evacuation, the incumbent in this position may be required to remain to perform needed services.
