Department:Parks & Recreation

This position is responsible for performing the daily operations of the assigned positions(s) with primary responsibility being ensuring guest, staff, and facility safety. Becoming a Lifeguard will involve learning new skills, which must be maintained and be able to be performed at any moment. In addition to maintaining lifeguarding skills, a Lifeguard must be able to adequately assist guests in the use of the City of Baytown Aquatics Facility's attractions. This includes knowing the aquatics facility and attractions as well as the rules. By accomplishing this, it will allow the park to run with optimal efficiency and safety. A Lifeguard must be able to effectively communicate the guests, co-workers, and City of Baytown Aquatics management staff.

  • Maintains a safe environment for all guest and staff members at City of Baytown's aquatics facilities.
  • Exhibits a personal commitment to the City of Baytown's aquatics facilities, and energizes other staff members.
  • Addresses guest concerns immediately (either personally, or by calling for assistance).
  • Maintains lifeguarding skills to a test-ready level at all times.
  • Attends required meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Assists in keeping the facility clean an orderly.
  • Responds to emergency situations as required
  • Keeps Head Lifeguards informed of all matters of significance either verbally or in writing
  • Prepares pool for seasonal and daily operations (opening and closing)
  • Communicates effectively with all levels of staff.

 Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 16 years of age.
  • Current American Red Cross Water Park Lifeguard license or the ability to obtain.
  • Good oral communication skills.
  • Bilingual/Spanish.

 Additional Information:
CPR, ability to apply lifeguard techniques; ability to identify unsafe practices and individuals in danger. Ability to get along appropriately with co-workers and the public.
