Texas AFT is seeking a full-time Lead Organizer for the Texas AFT Associate Membership Program (AMP). The work of Texas AFT AMP organizers is rooted in assisting educational employees build power in order to improve the working and learning conditions in Texas schools. Lead Organizers play a leadership role in strategic planning, guiding daily organizing activities, development and training of staff and emerging activists.
Applicants should have a minimum of 3 years of experience in organizing and a demonstrated ability to lead. Experience working in external union organizing campaigns is preferred. This position involves long and irregular hours, including weekend work, as well as some travel.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Lead Organizer performs a wide range of duties, including:
Builds AMP membership and leadership through face to face and online interactions.
Supervises organizers’ daily activities via frequent co-visits and daily debriefs
Participates in strategic planning at campaign, region, and statewide basis
Reports to the Project Director on progress toward campaign goals, staff performance, and other issues concerning the ground operation
Assists with organizer training, activists trainings and ongoing development of both
Oversees the maintenance of data and charting
Occasionally, works on assignment as a formula rep in other parts of the state or country
Crafts email, text message, social media ,and web-site content
Identifies digital organizing opportunities and campaigns that keep members engaged
Strong commitment to the labor movement
Knowledge of public sector unions in non-collective bargaining situations
Demonstrated skill as an organizer in the field
Demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate workers and staff
Demonstrated ability to work independently to achieve goals
Demonstrated ability to use a high level of judgment
Demonstrated ability to work well with people from varied backgrounds
Demonstrated ability to supervise staff
Demonstrated ability to evaluate staff’s strengths and areas of growth and provide ongoing training
Lead experience preferred
Strong spoken and written English and Spanish-language skills preferred
Computer literacy required
Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license required
Familiar with social media sites Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, and other up and coming platforms
