We are currently seeking a highly motivated individual in the Industrial Gases Americas-South business segment for Business Improvement lead position located in Houston, Texas.

Working both independently and in a team environment, you will be responsible for improvement project management, improvement portfolio coordination, technical/financial analysis, and cross-functional facilitation.

 
Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE:APD), a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, has an immediate opening for a Business Improvement Lead at our Houston, TX office.

For this role, we need an individual with a unique blend of business acumen, technical, analytical and communication skills with a continuous process improvement mindset. It is best suited for an engineer or someone with a strong technical background who would like to gain exposure to the wide breadth of technical, commercial, and organizational aspects of the Industrial Gases business.

You should be a highly motivated self-starter with strong interpersonal and analytical skills who is capable of rapidly learning, managing change, and influencing stakeholders at every level of the organization.  You will act as a change management agent and a resource for the application of advanced productivity tools and discipline.  Associated with the position is the potential for growth within the role and beyond commensurate with your skills and development.
  
Principal Accountabilities:
  • Organizes, prioritizes and leads improvement project portfolio for South logistics and planning
  • Facilitates idea generation through collaborative efforts (e.g. brainstorming, CI events, and stakeholder engagement).
  • Leverage functionality of the available data systems, including SAP, Power Steering, the Management Reporting System and other available data sources to drive low cost operations, logistics and process improvement.
  • Plans, performs and implements complex continuous improvement initiatives to new and existing processes.
  • Collects data to identify improvement opportunities by measuring performance against targets and performance requirements.
  • Conduct ad-hoc data collection and analysis in support of critical business-wide initiatives.  Estimate financial impact of improvement projects to enable prioritization and resource allocation between efforts.  Provide statistical analysis in support of improvement projects led by others.
  • Develops project plans and manages activities, deliverable against their deadline.
  • Engages project team members through consistent and shared accountability and establishes a strong leadership presence with teams.
  • Manages scope and report out on project team progress by utilizing a forward planning and close monitoring.
  • Develops metrics that provide data for process measurement and identifies indicators for future improvement opportunities.
  • Ensures new processes are documented, business ownership with associated change management defined before full implementation.
  • Owner of the information residing in the Powersteering and SAP as related to project benefit reporting. This requires tracking and validating the information in various databases.
  • Understands strategic direction of business unit or division and implements action plans to meet the needs of the business and key stakeholders
  • Coordinates process improvement and planning work with other regional improvement teams to ensure consistent process convergence and best practice sharing where appropriate.
Basic Qualifications:  
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree, data analytics and statistical analysis focus is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience with process improvement work or productivity projects
  • Experience with Continuous Improvement tools/techniques/methods (e.g. Lean Six Sigma, Kaizen, etc.). Lean Six Sigma Green/Black Belt preferred
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem solving, and reporting skills;
  • Demonstrated experience with process improvement and project management methodologies and/or plant operations experience.
  • Highly motivated, initiative taker
  • Strong project management skills, proven record of delivery against deadlines
 Preferred Qualifications:  
  • Experience with statistical analysis tools such as Minitab, or similar
  • Experience working with complex teams
  • SAP knowledge preferred
