Are you looking for part-time professional-leve writing work with a schedule that fits your needs? Are you at your absolute best when you write? HCSS is currently seeking a talented technical writer to help produce high-quality print, online, and multi-media documentation for existing and new software products. Experience and a college degree is preferred but not required.

Technical writers work withsoftware developers, and then explain their work through the written word and/or in form of multimedia documentation (tutorials, videos, online help, etc.) to end users. Additonally, since technical writers work with the product while its still in development, they are expected to contribute to user-interface design and conduct usability testing.
Required Skills
HCSS is looking for an individual with the following skills:

Ability to work well under pressure
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Ability to interview subject matter experts while having limited knowledge of the subject.
Excellent English and grammar skills.

Ability and drive to understand customers, their needs, and perspective.
Demostrated ability to work independently, with minimal direction
Proven communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Strong customer focus
Proactive, team member attribute
Able to muti-task

Desired Skills
The following skills are desired, but not required:

Familiarity with the following software tools: Microsoft Office, Microsoft Visio, Adobe Acrobat Professional, MadCap Flare, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop or Fireworks (or equivalant), Techsmith Camtasia, Adobe Captivate, Adobe Flash, Techsmith SnagIt., Sony Vegas or Final Cut Pro.
Familiarity with the following: HTML, XML, JavaScript, and CSS
Usability Testing
Visual /User Interface design
Document Design
Marketing writing

Before You Apply... What You Should Know
*Please note that this position is designed to be a regular part-time position. If you are looking for a part-time position with the potential to become a full-time employee, this would not be suitable for you. However, if you desire to do professional-level work with part-time hours (20-25 hours/week), this would be an ideal role for you.

Experience: Because there is no extensive formal training program for this position, direct experience in this position is required.

Pay: In general, the starting hourly wage for our part-time position is dependant upon experience of the applicant.

How to Apply
To ensure you have the logic skills for problem solving, we give all applicants a short reasoning test as well as some simple grammar/vocabulary questions. Although the test is not particularly difficult (about 7th grade level), if you were poor at math in school, you will probably not pass the test.
