DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provides specialized health information, knowledge and skills to various community groups and the general public.

Plans, organizes and develops asthma education activities that meet school and community needs. Works with students, parents and school staff to develop individualized asthma action plans for students. Schedules and presents asthma education classes/programs/seminars/ workshops for parents, nurses, teachers and other community groups. Establishes and maintains a close working relationship with schools, students, parents and other community groups. Prepares or assists with the preparation of asthma education pamphlets, visual aids or special presentations. Assists with Public Health Educator staff development.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The position occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional very light lifting, such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required.

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Education, Behavioral Science or a closely related field such as Public Health.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
No experience is required.

Directly related professional experience in Public Health, Education or a closely related field may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Valid Texas Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston policy on driving (AP 2-2). PREFERENCES: Preferences will be given to applicants who are bilingual in English/Spanish.
