Job Title: MICROBIOLOGIST II
Salary: $1,053.00 - $1,601.00 Biweekly $27,378.00 - $41,626.00 Annually Job Type: Full-Time Location: 1115 S. Braeswood, Texas PN # 06922 All Persons Interested Department: Health and Human Services Division: Office of Surveillance & PH Preparedness Section: Microbiology & Clinical* Location: 1115 South Braeswood, Lab* Workdays & Hours: M-F, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.* *Subject to change DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Performs technical bacteriological, serological and virological laboratory work according to clearly prescribed procedures and laboratory techniques. Performs specimen accessioning and processes diagnostic specimens/reference cultures for the isolation and identification of bacterial pathogens using microbiological, serological and molecular methods. Performs rotational duties in bacteriology, parasitology, mycology and mycobacteriology. Performs quality control/quality assessment on media reagent and equipment used for testing procedures and maintains records for all tests performed. Assists in ordering and maintaining media/reagent and general supply inventory. Participates in proficiency testing and continuing educational programs. Performs other duties as assigned to include some evening, weekend and holiday work. WORKING CONDITIONS The position occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional very light lifting, such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required. Skills / Requirements
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
A Bachelor's degree in Biology, Bacteriology, Microbiology or a closely related field is required. MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS One year of experience in laboratory work dealing with bacteriology, serology or virology is required. MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS Valid Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston policy on driving (AP 2-2). PREFERENCES: Preference will be given to applicants with hands-on experience in clinical microbiology, parasitology, mycology and mycobacteriology. Good communication and organizational skills. Proficient with Microsoft software programs. Familiar with laboratory information management system (LIMS).
