DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Assist in the preparation and evaluation of various drawings, reports, designs and test data for Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) in the Storm Water Group of the Engineering Branch. Review engineering drawings and computations prepared by design consultants to conform to the City of Houston Design Standards. Assist in the bidding process by implementing pre and post bid procedures and awarding the projects for construction. Conduct field studies and inspections. Prepare plans and specifications. Investigates general public inquiries and prepares responses. Develop and designs new layouts, drawings, etc. Assist in the design, development, evaluation and implementation of multi-engineering disciplines to improve operations, procedures and systems. Prepare correspondence such as letters, interoffice memoranda, reports, etc. Coordinate and plan improvements with various departments, outside agencies and civic associations. Assist supervisor in implementing Departmental Policies and Procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Will require standing, walking, and include whatever means necessary to climb stairs and the ability to perform and negotiate field hazards.

This is a Department of Public Works & Engineering Emergency Management position at the Tier II Level.

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires Bachelor's degree in Engineering that is approved by the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers with a satisfactory standing, or will graduate with such a degree at the end of the current semester. OR Requires graduation from an engineering or related science curriculum at a recognized institution of higher education, other than a curriculum approved by the Board and passage of the eight hour fundamentals of engineering examination prescribed by the Board. OR Possession of a valid Engineering-in-Training Certificate issued by the Board under the current requirements of the Texas Engineering Practice Act.

Valid Texas Driver's License and meets the requirements of the City of Houston's policy on driving. PREFERENCES: Preferences will be given to applicants with knowledge of personal computer spreadsheets, word processing and Geographic Information Systems.
