Job Title: EQUIPMENT WORKER
Salary: $849.00 - $1,266.00 Biweekly $22,074.00 - $32,916.00 Annually Job Type: Full-Time Location: Houston, Texas PN # 06966 All Persons Interested EQUIPMENT WORKER Department: Parks and Recreation Division: Grounds Maintenance Section: Forestry Location: 6501 Memorial Workdays & Hours: M - F, 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.* *Subject to change DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The qualified individual will operate and maintain a high lift and a variety of other heavy equipment including a tree spade truck, high lift, Bobcat, bucket truck, chipper dump, sweeper truck and tractor (46 to 65 hp). Responsible for the care, cleaning and maintenance of equipment including all types of chainsaws and brush chippers as well as performing preventive maintenance on routinely used equipment. Will safely climb and prune trees at heights of 80-100 feet by using a rope and saddle. Observe and implement safety procedures and precautions at work site. Prepare and maintain records and reports relevant to tasks and productivity. Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays and emergencies as needed. This position is designates among essential personnel under the City's Emergency Management Policy. WORKING CONDITIONS Require stooping, bending and the ability to lift up to 30 pounds with occasional periods of walking on rough or uneven surfaces. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns. Skills / Requirements
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to read, write, add, subtract and follow oral and/or basic written instructions that might normally be acquired through 9-11 years of formal schooling. MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Six months of experience in the operation of plant or automotive equipment and attachments are required. MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS Must have a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and comply with the City of Houston's policy AP 2-2 on driving. PREFERENCES: Preference will be given to applicants with extensive working experience in the aforementioned equipment and considerable knowledge of safety knots including the taut-line hitch, clove hitch, running bowline and the bullet.
