DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provides engineering support in identifying, evaluating, recommending, and planning for improvements of operations, procedures, facilities and systems. Evaluates and plans the water and wastewater systems using advanced computer models. Plans and implements model updates and builds models for new areas. Performs and reviews engineering computations. Develops and designs conceptual utilities layouts, drawings, etc. Reviews, research, analyze and prepare various records, reports and other data. Acts as a liaison to other departments, government agencies, and the private sector. Responds to complaints or inquiries from citizens, City officials or outside agencies. Performs personnel functions, such as evaluating subordinate performance, interviewing prospective personnel, training subordinates, and recommending disciplinary action. Requires ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

WORKING CONDITIONS
This position routinely requires standing, walking, bending, lifting and whatever means necessary to perform and negotiate field hazards including long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis.

These are Department of Public Works & Engineering Emergency Management positions at the Tier III Level.

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires graduation from an approved curriculum in engineering by the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers with satisfactory standing; OR Requires graduation from an engineering or related science curriculum at a recognized institution of higher education, other than a curriculum approved by the Board, and passage of the eight-hour fundamentals of engineering examination prescribed by the Board.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Four (4) years of active practice in engineering work after graduation from an approved curriculum in engineering are required.

MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Requires registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas. Valid Texas Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston policy on driving. PREFERENCES: Preference will be given to candidates with water/wastewater modeling experience, knowledge of GIS, and supervisory experience.
