PN# 06675 Public Works & Engineering Engineering & Construction Division Engineering Branch 611 Walker * M - F, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.* *Subject to changeDESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Leads and manages the Engineering Branch in the accomplishment of all engineering and design work required to implement the City's capital improvements of infrastructure to include storm drainage improvements; street, bridge, and traffic improvements; wastewater collection and treatment; and water purification and distribution. Manages contract processes for delivery of engineering and design services as well as construction placement. Administers Branch business processes to keep accurate and efficient records; respond effectively and efficiently to constituent, Council, or administration queries with regard to programs. Serve as staff expert for the Director on engineering issues; leads Departmental processes for establishment of engineering standards and approving of products. As required, represent the Director to Council, other Departments, external entities, and the public. Performs other duties as assigned. Oversee and manage the operation of approximately 102 employees. WORKING CONDITIONS The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. Position is considered a Tier II position for emergency response operations in accordance with Departmental Policy. This is a Department of Public Works & Engineering Emergency Management position at the Tier 1 Level.

Skills / Requirements
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, and/or related engineering discipline. MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS More than ten (10) years of experience in civil infrastructure design and construction in the areas of storm drainage, streets and traffic, water treatment and supply, and wastewater collection and treatment is required. MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS Professional Engineering license in the State of Texas, or current license in another state and demonstrated ability to secure a Texas license within 6 mos. Valid Texas Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving. PREFERENCES: Additional education to the Master's degree level or higher in an engineering discipline; additional graduate level study in related discipline. GENERAL INFORMATION: SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED: None However, the department may administer a skill assessment evaluation. SAFETY IMPACT POSITION: Yes If yes, this position is subject to random drug testing and if a promotional position, candidate must pass an assignment drug test. SALARY INFORMATION Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
