Job: Nurse Manager - OR (77550)

The nurse manager (OR/PACU/SP) is a member of the Patient Care Services Management Team. The Manager plans, supervises and directs nursing care and related activities according to the mission, vision, policies, procedures, philosophy and objectives of the hospital and department. The manager has responsibilities for environmental control, staffing, personnel, interdepartmental communication, material and equipment management, education of personnel and administrative duties. The manager participates in preparing, managing and auditing the department budgets.
DUTIES:
Plans, coordinates, and implements a plan to deliver nursing care to patients to reflect the hospital mission, vision, values, and the philosophy, goals and standards of the Nursing Department.
Demonstrates effective leadership as evidenced by example, dedication and initiative to assume responsibility and authority, solve problems, ensure timely decisions and provide direction to the staff on a day-to-day basis.
Works with Medical Staff to maintain and improve the quality of patient care.
Continually updates policy, procedures, and standards in accordance with national standards of nursing practice, applicable national, state and local regulations and corporate policy.
Suggests revisions in hospital policy and procedures and makes recommendations for improving patient care through appropriate administrative channels.
Manages the departmental human resources through provision of adequate numbers and type of staff necessary to provide patient care, development of a competent staff for provision of care and mentoring of all categories of staff in patient care management functions.
Performs timely and effective personnel management according to hospital policies and procedures.
Works with the Director of Inpatient Services to update departmental policies, procedures, job descriptions, and performance evaluations annually and/or as needed, proven by documentation.
Conducts performance evaluations that accurately reflect employee performance within two weeks of scheduled evaluation date.
Collaborates with the Director of Inpatient Services in hiring staff, disciplinary actions, and employee recognition in a timely manner in accordance with Hospitals Policy and Procedure as proven by documentation.
Completes orientation of new employees
Manages the departmental fiscal resources in a manner to provide efficient cost effective quality patient care.
Coordinates and integrates nursing care with services of other departments to provide quality patient care
Plans, implements and coordinates performance improvement activities with staff intra- and interdepartmentally to improve patient care under the direction of the Director of Inpatient Services.
Participates in management, leadership, and professional activities as appropriate.
Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Adheres to institutional and departmental policies regarding attendance.

Required Education: BSN required, Masters in Nursing or related fields preferred. Graduate from Accredited School of Nursing.

Required License/Certification: Currently licensed to practice in Texas. ACLS or PALS Certified.

Training and Experience: Minimum of four (4) years experience in Nursing. One to two years of management experience preferred.

Skills and Knowledge: Computer skills: Demonstrated ability to use word processing and data based software to develops reports and analyze data. Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred to communicate with others.
