We are seeking a Staff Accountant who will be responsible for the development and maintenance of accurate financial information for specific areas of the general ledger and financial statements. To perform this job successfully, an individual must perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Responsibilities include:

The Staff Accountant will successfully manage the following responsibilities:

  • Assists in preparing financial statements to include the monthly balance sheet, income statement and report on changes in financial position/budget variances and maintain related records.

  • Maintains the general ledger to include the preparation of journal entries, coding of invoices, account analysis and reconciliation, closing books monthly and setting up new accounts.

  • Oversight and direct responsibility for the performance of accounts receivable activities including: Application of cash receipts, preparation of refunds and similar items and preparation of account statements. Traces source and corrects client accounts for errors in misapplied payments/credits or identifying information (e.g., name and address).

  • Reconciles, writes and confirms company journal entries.

  • Reconciles bank accounts and related adjustments.

  • Instrumental in completing month end closing.

  • Reviews monthly operating budgets and researches and explains variances, as required.

  • Works on special projects as required.

    All of the above essential functions require the ability to communicate effectively, be detail oriented, be mobile in the office area, grasp materials, the visual ability to read procedures, instructions, etc., and using varying degrees of independence, judgment, and discretion.

    Problems and Challenges

    The incumbent in this position must:

  • Develop ways to expedite the month end close process to meet deadlines.

  • Anticipate upcoming accounting requirements and assist in the development of new reporting strategies as new product lines are developed.

  • Adapt to conflicting deadlines and priorities established by company demands.

  • Keep abreast of changing accounting practices while learning to use software to maximize efficiencies.

  • Communicate financial information to supervisors, department managers, and upper management, and employees from other divisions.

    Decision Making Latitude

    Examples of decisions that can be made without conferring with superiors:

  • Recommending, designing, and implementing any necessary department controls.

  • Communication with customers to resolve outstanding account balances, unapplied credits, etc.

  • Communication with various laboratory locations to obtain information pertinent to the performance of assigned duties.

  • Assigning Chart of Account numbers.

    Examples of decisions that can be made only after conferring with superiors:

  • Submission of financial results to management.

  • Assigning Chart of Account numbers.

  • Format of month end financial reports.

  • Skills / Requirements
    JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have intermediate Excel skills, experience with Microsoft Dynmics SL (or similar integrated mid-level ERP software).
  • Good writing and communication skills.
  • Prior experience working with a shared services environment, supporting multiple locations and entities.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Must be able to adjust to changes in priorities.
  • Diligent work ethic and the ability to work independently and complete tasks on deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle numerous details.
  • High energy level, confidence and ability to thrive in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance.
  • Intermediate level accounting knowledge
  • 1+ year supervisory experience
  • +3 years experience Accounts Receivable, collections, contract management and General Ledger
