Job: Phlebotomist

Skill and comprehension level required for this category:

Phlebotomy certification (where required) from an accredited agency, completion of an approved phlebotomy training course, or equivalent experience through previous employment.

Minimum of one to two years verifiable phlebotomy experience. Geriatric phlebotomy experience is preferred, but not a requirement.

Exhibit proficiency in all of the following: blood collection by venipuncture technique from patients of all age groups, experience in difficult draws is a plus(patients in long-term care facilities, rehabilitation facilities, psychiatric facilities, or similar facilities).

Has comprehensive understanding of compliance and safety. Verifies test requisitions by comparing information with nursing station log; bringing discrepancies to the attention of unit personnel.

Possess the ability and skills necessary to provide orientation and training for other phlebotomist. Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic techniques, following department procedures; observing isolation procedures. Collects theraputic drug-monitoring assays by collaborating with nursing personnel to ensure appropriate drug dose to collection time; tracks collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection.

Willing to travel locally. (Mileage reimbursement paid)

License/Certification/Education:

Normally requires a High School Diploma or equivalent with 1- 2 years experience.
