Profile: Hispanic Business Student Association

Our History

The Hispanic Business Student Association (HBSA) was founded in the Fall of 1983 by a small number of students who saw a need for an organization to foster the growth of Hispanic students interested in pursuing business related careers. Originally named the Mexican American Business Student Association (MABSA), the organization enjoyed rapid growth while serving the needs of an increasing number of students. MABSA became an established and respected entity within the College of Business Administration, and soon after changed its name to encompass all students of Hispanic heritage.

To provide Hispanic business students with the necessary skills and tools to succeed in both the corporate and professional world.

Our Vision

We envision an organization that brings together diverse groups of people who share similar career interests and prepares them for the real world of business. We seek to lead by example, training with our current leaders and members so that they may become tomorrow’s business executives and community leaders.

Our Purpose

• Voice the concerns of Hispanic business students and alumni at the University of Houston.
• Promote business leadership skills and entrepreneurism among Hispanics.
• Enhance the visibility and make Hispanic students aware of successful Hispanic professionals within the local business community.
• Promote academic excellence and increase the enrollment of Hispanics in institutions of higher education.
• Provide networking and career opportunities for Hispanic students and alumni from the University of Houston.
• Assist organizations in recruiting, professionally developing, and promoting Hispanic professionals.

Development of HBSA

Since its inception, HBSA has grown to become the premier student organizations at the C.T. Bauer College of Business and currently boasts a membership of over a 125 members. We arrange and organize a wide variety of programs and activities to prepare our members for success in their future careers. We also provide an environment where our members have the opportunity to develop the essential skills that recruiters actively seek in the candidates they hire.
