TOTC - A New Health Insurance Option

The Texas Occupational Therapy Association and the Texas Health Care Purchasing Alliance, Inc. (THCPA) have joined forces to form the Texas Occupational Therapy Coalition (TOTC). THCPA is Texas' oldest active private health benefits purchasing cooperative.

The association has combined resources with the THCPA to initiate a health insurance purchasing cooperative for TOTA's small employer members. Since 1993, the Texas Insurance Code has allowed small employers to band together in private non-profit purchasing cooperatives to obtain the economies of scale that large employers have enjoyed for years. The passage of HB 949 during the 77th Texas Legislature codified the 20% size discount factor rule for groups in the 2 - 50 employee small employer market. Life, dental, disability and health insurance are available.

By joining a health benefits purchasing cooperative such as the Texas Occupational Therapy Coalition, small employers can combine to form a larger group which can take advantage of the lower rates previously available only to the larger employers.
