Blog Post: Will the real bookkeeper stand up?
posted Friday, April 24, 2009 7:44 PM
A few years ago I needed a bookkeeper. I ran an ad in the local community newspaper. The ad said “Immediate opening for a bookkeeper. Apply in person (month, day, year) at 10 am at (office, street address).” When that day arrived I was quite surprised to see about 20-25 job seekers in the lobby. When the door stopped opening and closing, I entered the lobby and introduced myself. I thanked the job seekers for showing up. I explained that in just a few minutes I would return with a bookkeeping test for the job seekers to take. I excused myself from the crowd and went to my office. In about five minutes I returned to the lobby and found only 3 job seekers remaining. I handed out the test. All three job seekers passed the test. Now it was a personality match with the owner.
*Never apply for a job that you can’t do. Be prepared for a test. *Personalities do matter and owners will hire a person that they connect with, feel comfortable with. Job seekers ~ if you are a real bookkeeper looking for a job, I will review your resume for free to make sure you are showing your knowledge. Employers ~ if you are in need of a bookkeeper, I will review the resumes you receive for free and suggest which job seekers you should interview.
