Blog Post: How to Make the Most of your Career Expo Experience on November 13th
posted Sunday, October 26, 2008 10:23 AM
The career event of the season is upon us. From noon to 5pm on November 13th, Reliant Arena will play host to over 100 great local employers eager to meet Houston area job seekers and identify their next "superstar". Set yourself apart! Here are a few things you should be doing to prepare for a great day at the Jobing.com Career Expo
- PREREGISTER. You will bypass the registration line at the event's entrance and get straight to business: finding your next great employer. Click here to preregister for the Career Expo and print your Quick Pass. - RESEARCH. Probably the most important step in career fair preparation... and the most widely overlooked. Having a basic understanding of a company, their product(s)/service(s), company facts, and current events will show the recruiter you take your job search seriously and will give you some "talking points", rather than the uncomfortable silence after the introduction. I explain this process here:
- TAKE ADVANTAGE OF EXPO RESOURCES. There are more than just great employers at the Jobing.com Expo. We provide you with all the tools necessary to get the job you want and deserve. Dozens of professional resume reviewers will be on-site ready to assist in fine tuning your resume BEFORE you give it to an employer. Bring your resume on a flash drive or disk, have it critiqued, make the changes, and print out the finished product. Four workshops will also take place during the Career Expo. All topics are geared to help you be better prepared in your job search and include working with a recruiter, navigating the Career Expo, and resources available at Texas WorkForce Solutions. Jobing.com will have a booth near the front of the facility; we're happy to assist in any way! - MENTALLY PREPARE. The way you represent yourself as a potential employer at the Career Expo will make or break your chances. Dress professionally (at least business casual; preferably business attire), let your strengths shine, and practice your 15 second "commercial" highlighting your work history, accomplishments, and professional ambitions. Now go get your next great Houston job! Best of luck!
