Blog Post: Expo is Around the Corner.. Do Your Research!

With the Jobing.com Career Expo just a week away, now is time for the first step: prepare! This is probably every job seekers least favorite part of the career search, but is critical in landing the job you want and deserve.

The process is simple:

- Check out the list of companies attending the Jobing.com Career Expo.

- Identify several companies that you plan on talking to at the Expo.

- Perform an Internet search (Yahoo, Google, etc.) for the company's official website.

- Pay attention to the key areas of their website: "About Company", "News", "History", and of course, "Career Opportunities".

Use the information gained from your research to interact with the company representative at the Expo. For instance, you can say, "I was on (company's) website and learned that ... " Make it personal and show genuine interest.

Having relevant information about the company when talking to the recruiter can put you so far ahead of others, you cannot afford not to take the time to complete this crucial step. Doing this shows the employer that you are genuinely interested in them and that you take your job search seriously. It can make the difference between your resume making it to the "call for interview" stack and being "kept on file".
