Blog Post: Fox26 & Jobing.com Job Seeker Phone Calls

posted Monday, July 21, 2008 10:28 AM

I had the privilege of being asked by Jobing.com, as a community partner, to participate in the Fox26 and Jobing.com job seekers phone calls July 18. I want to personally “Thank You” to the folks that called and I got to speak to. I’m serious! Each caller was different with different concerns or different questions. Nonetheless, I got to speak to such a wide range of callers and I learned a lot! I truly appreciate you for getting up early, watching Fox26 and making the phone call. Hopefully your decision to make that call will have a positive impact on your life. Don’t give up! Focus and you will shine.

I would like to take this opportunity to share some information with you that may help you as a job seeker.

*Make sure your resume is up to date and relates to the job you are seeking. If you’ve been in sales and want to move to analysis, make sure your resume shows your SKAs (skills, knowledge, abilities) toward analysis and not sales.

*Have your resume reviewed by a professional to make sure you are showing all of your skills, knowledge and abilities for the job you are seeking. At no charge, Texas Workforce Solutions will review your resume. And remember that at Jobing.com job fairs, Texas Workforce Solutions will have an area specifically for job seekers to review your resume. Jobing.com and Texas Workforce Solutions are partners for the job seeker. Jobing.com has a job fair scheduled for August 26 th . Mark your calendar. Be there!

*If you have registered with Texas Workforce Solutions, it is your responsibility to regularly contact them and let them know you are an active job seeker.

*Remember the Yellow Pages! If you’re a contractor and need work, pull out the phone book.  Make cold calls or better yet, go in person and ask to fill out an application and request an interview.

*If you are unemployed, being a job seeker is almost a fulltime position. You get out of it what you put in to it. Set daily goals for number of contacts, interviews, etc.

*If you have access to the Internet, you can pretty much find everything, such as industry salaries for Houston, hot jobs in Houston, what’s hot and what’s not, etc.

*Jobing.com allows you to search by job types and location. Here’s a link that will take you to Jobing.com Houston jobs http://houston.jobing.com/default.asp. Copy and paste this link in your browser and it will take you to Houston jobs. Or you can Google “Jobing.com” and get to the same place. Many roads lead you to the same place, it’s all about how you get there, there’s no wrong way!

Houston is a vibrant, live, action, entrepreuaial city. Stop, think, search and go shine!
